About the Roles
We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our team as a Cultural Connections Worker and Family Researcher. These roles work hand-in-hand to support the cultural identity, wellbeing, and connectedness of Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC by helping them reconnect with their family, community, and Country.
You’ll work closely with our Out of Home Care and Restoration casework teams, families, community Elders, and Aboriginal organisations across NSW to support cultural care planning and kinship reunification.
Key Responsibilities
Cultural Connections Worker:
Develop and implement individualised Cultural Care Plans
Facilitate cultural programs, events, and community engagement activities
Build strong relationships with Aboriginal Elders and communities
Connect children and young people with their family, Country, and culture
Create culturally appropriate training resources for staff, carers, and CYP
Represent the organisation at community events and consultations
Family Researcher:
Conduct family history and ancestry research using a range of systems and resources
Develop genograms and family trees to support cultural identity and potential kinship placements
Work collaboratively with caseworkers and Cultural Connections staff to support reunification goals
Deliver training on family finding and contribute to Cultural Care Plan development
Strengthen relationships with Aboriginal organisations, Land Councils, and community leaders
About You
Identify as Aboriginal with strong knowledge of and connection to Aboriginal culture and communities
Experience working with Aboriginal children, families, and communities
Excellent research, communication, and engagement skills
Ability to travel across NSW and interstate as required
Commitment to cultural safety, healing, and empowerment of Aboriginal children and families
