Are you a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist with a desire to support clients by completing functional assessments and providing individualised care plans?

We are working with a well-respected not-for-profit organisation to seek a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join their team. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in providing assessment, triage and functional assessments to support clients' long-term recovery. 

As a part of the Psychosocial Support Program, this role is dedicated to providing tailored care plans that enhance the lives of individuals with mental health presentations. We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team to carry out functional assessments and support clients in achieving their recovery goals.
 

The Role

Your role will involve evaluating Client's abilities to engage in everyday activities, identifying strengths, and supporting the development of coping strategies and life skills. You will play a key role in providing holistic and individualized recommendations to ensure clients can access the supports they need to enhance their independence and overall well-being. The role is a 12 month contract until June 30th 2027, full-time at 38 hours per week. The role involves home visits across Guildford, Lidcombe, Riverstone and Hills district, Merrylands and Auburn locations. Therefore, a Car and a full driver's license is a requirement for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional assessments to evaluate clients' capacity to engage in daily activities, both in individual and group settings.
  • Develop and implement interventions that assist clients in achieving their personal recovery goals, including life skills such as public transport use, grocery shopping, education, and training access.
  • Work with clients to build coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and resilience to manage mental health challenges.
  • Provide support and assistance to navigate the mental health system, secure housing, access government support payments, and connect with advocacy services.
  • Support clients in reconnecting with family, friends, and expanding their social networks.
  • Contribute to group activities that promote well-being, including psycho-education on budgeting, nutrition, mindfulness, and self-care.
  • Work collaboratively with other service providers to ensure clients receive comprehensive care and support.
  • Encourage participation in community activities such as physical exercise, arts and crafts, and volunteer opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Occupational Therapy and registration with APRHA.
  • First Aid & CPR training.
  • Have all 3 Covid Vaccinations.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions and an understanding of psychosocial support needs.
  • Strong functional assessment and clinical reasoning skills to support a person-centered approach.
  • Experience developing life skills programs and building resilience in clients with mental health challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to recovery-focused, strengths-based practice and community engagement.
